At a May 9 meeting with congressional leaders, U.S. President Joe Biden severely blasted ‘MAGA’ Republicans over their unwillingness to support a higher federal debt ceiling, warning that the White House would not compromise.
Biden claimed Republicans are “divided” on the debt ceiling before a White House investment meeting and MAGA. Republicans want “draconian” budget cutbacks.
“This country doesn’t need a manufactured crisis,” he remarked.
Biden slammed House Republicans for threatening not to lift the debt ceiling unless Biden and Democrats reduce the budget drastically. “They’re unconnected. “Your budget has nothing to do with whether you pay the debt,” he stated.
He suggested “debating our vision of the future” with Americans. The May 9 White House meeting with Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and senior Democrats begins a frantic few weeks of negotiations before the U.S. runs out of money to pay its bills on June 1.
