On Sunday, Belarusian anti-government activists claimed they had destroyed a sophisticated Russian military surveillance aircraft in a drone strike near Minsk. However, neither Moscow nor Belarus acknowledged the assertion.

The Beriev A-50 airborne early warning aircraft, known as Mainstay by NATO, can track up to 60 targets and has command and control capabilities.

Belarus, a close Russian ally, has permitted Moscow to conduct strikes on Ukraine from its borders without officially joining the war.

“Drones (that carried out the attack). Belarusians are operating “BYPOL’s commander, Aliaksandr Azarov, was quoted on Belsat and Telegram.

Azarov offered no proof.

Minsk calls BYPOL, a group of retired police personnel who support opposition politicians, a terrorist organ.

In addition, Belsat, a Polish broadcaster of Belarusian news, is considered radical by Minsk.

Azarov’s assertion was refuted by Belarus, according to the Kremlin.

Therefore, it did likewise t react. Likewise, Belarusian and Russian defense ministries did not respond to comment inquiries.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s advisor Frank Viacorka tweeted that two Belarusian “partisans” attacked the Machulishchy air base near Minsk.

He added the drones damaged the A-50’s radar antenna, avionics, and front and center. He stated the two attackers were outside Belarus.

“I am proud of all Belarusians who continue to reject the Russian hybrid occupation of Belarus & fight for the liberation of Ukraine,” opposition leader Tsikhanouskaya tweeted, linking to her adviser Viacorka’s report.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, Belarus and Russian districts bordering Ukraine have seen multiple railway sabotage incidents.

On Monday, Belarusian human rights group Vyasna reported that a lady was held in Machulishchy, where the air sits. However, it denied knowing why it was detained.

Since President Alexander Lukashenko repressed huge protests in 2020 and arrested or exiled all key opposition activists, detentions in Belarus have been widespread.
