At least eight dead and many more missing by landslide caused by heavy rain in Peru.
Heavy rains over the weekend triggered mudslides in several communities, including Pampaylima, Venado de Oro, Infiernillo, San Martin, Miski, and Secocha, all of which are located in the Mariano Nicolas Valcarcel district.
The COEN, updated the death toll shortly after Wilson Gutierrez, the technical secretary of the district’s National Civil Defense Institute, told Radio Programs of Peru that 36 people had been killed.
Local authorities have requested that humanitarian aid be airlifted to the affected communities.
The defense ministry announced on Twitter that it is actively helping in the efforts.
By providing helicopters, tents, water tanks, sandbags, and disaster relief personnel.
The deadly landslide comes after almost 2 months of anti-government protests in the South American country.
Primarily, in Peru’s Andean south, following the discharge of former President Pedro Castillo on December 7.
