Ashton Kutcher Endorses Taptalk

Taptalk is the newest app to bat against messaging giants such as WhatsApp and Snapchat for a piece of the social sharing pie. The concept is very similar to Snapchat, though fans of the app, including Ashton Kutcher, argue that it is much better.

The premise is simple. The top half of the screen shows the camera’s picture, while the bottom half has a panel of square thumbnail images of your friends’ faces. To send a picture or video, all the user needs to do is tap or hold the picture of the person they want to send it to. Unlike Snapchat though, messages can only be sent to one person at a time. The makers feel that this makes the message unique, knowing that you were specifically thought of as its recipient.

Further still, the makers have a removable timer and still allow the user to type text before sending the message. Ashton Kutcher likes it so much he tweeted, “This app just secured homepage real estate on my phone. taptalk.me” to his sixteen million followers, which served as great advertising for the startup.

It is unclear whether or not Kutcher has invested into the app, though SV Angel has already done so. The amount that they invested has not been released. Kutcher has however invested next to SV Angel in the past, including Fab.com and Bloomthat. He is also well-known for investing in Spotify and Airbnb. Maybe he has invested, maybe he hasn’t, but Ashton’s instincts have been keen in the past. Taptalk may be the next big thing.
