On Tuesday, the world’s most valuable publicly traded business, Apple (AAPL.O), is scheduled to introduce a new iPhone 15 series. This comes when concerns have been raised over market access in China and competition.

Although sales of the iPhone accounted for more than half of Apple’s total revenue of $394.3 billion in 2018, the company is facing new problems in China, which is its third-largest market. Apple’s headquarters are located in Cupertino, California.

Apple’s newest phones are anticipated to include upgraded charging ports, titanium casings, and cameras. However, these new phones will be introduced at Apple Park headquarters at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (1700 GMT) on the same day the Chinese government increased certain limitations on using iPhones.

Apple will also have to contend with rivalry from Huawei Technologies (HWT.UL), Apple’s primary competitor in China’s premium smartphone market until U.S. export limits destroyed Huawei’s phone business in 2019. Apple will be forced to deal with this competition to remain successful. This past week, Huawei began selling the Mate 60 Pro. This high-end smartphone utilizes Chinese-made processors that some United States politicians suspect were built to violate United States trade restrictions.

Add-on capabilities like satellite calling, which rely on China’s government-backed network, are one of the ways Huawei plans to acquire a competitive advantage against Apple. The current series of iPhones from Apple contains satellite capabilities; nevertheless, these features are designed to be used only in critical circumstances.

On Tuesday, Apple will likely focus on its newest product selection. The transition from Apple’s proprietary “Lightning” charging cords to USB-C, a standard that Apple currently utilizes on its laptops and certain high-end iPads, will be the most significant update for most of Apple’s customer base.

Even though European legislation compelled Apple to make the change, industry observers predict that the firm will market the modification as an improvement, capitalizing on the increased data transfer rates to facilitate the sharing of high-quality films created on iPhones.

The term “periscope” refers to a new camera technology analysts anticipate will provide mobile devices with improved zoom capabilities. These experts also anticipate titanium casings and updated processors. These so-called “periscope” lenses may use mirrors or prisms to provide a longer lens without the camera module needing to be made much bigger.

The most important issue of the day will be whether or not Apple will save those capabilities for a brand-new high-end iPhone and offer incremental improvements to its more affordable devices.

According to Ben Bajarin, chief executive officer and principal analyst of Creative Strategies, “Just like we saw people who aren’t Ultra athletes buy the Apple Watch Ultra, we’re going to see a bunch of people buy this even if they aren’t camera or photography enthusiasts, just because they like the latest and greatest,” “That, all by itself, creates that buzz, momentum, and allure to the top end.”

It is anticipated that Apple will raise the average price of each phone it sells to grow its income; however, it is unknown whether this will be accomplished by increasing pricing across the board or limiting the rise to premium models alone. According to statistics provided by Counterpoint Research, the worldwide smartphone industry saw a dip from shipping 294.5 million total phones to 268 million in the second quarter. However, Apple’s shipments dropped the least of any major smartphone producer, going from 46.5 million phones to 45.3 million.

Bob O’Donnell, chairman of TECHnalysis Research, says, “The truth of the matter is, we’re in a very down smartphone market.”

O’Donnell said that he would also be looking for any signs of Apple’s ambitions with what is known as generative artificial intelligence. This technological trend is driving apps such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s “Copilot” assistant technologies for its Office program. O’Donnell said he would be looking for any hints about Apple’s plans with what is known as generative artificial intelligence.

Apple has offered little indications about its ambitions for such technology, except statements made by Chief Executive Tim Cook in July, which said that the firm’s covert work on the technology is pushing up its research expenditure. Analysts have regularly questioned Apple about its plans for such technology, but the company has not responded.

Will Apple hint at a more sophisticated version of Siri? “That is something that could stir up some excitement,” said O’Donnell. “That would be something.”
