Apple Inc. (AAPL.O) is in negotiations with suppliers to build MacBooks in Thailand, according to Nikkei.
Three suppliers negotiating with Apple informed Nikkei that they are considering assembling and producing MacBook components and modules at their Thai manufacturing facilities.
The article also stated that Thailand had mass-produced Apple Watches for over a year.
Apple didn’t reply to Reuters’ request for comment. In addition, Reuters couldn’t find the report’s three providers.
Apple and its suppliers have moved manufacturing away from China after tight COVID-19 limits interrupted Foxconn’s (2317. TW) largest iPhone facility last year.
Apple wants to prevent commercial losses from Beijing-Washington tensions.
On Thursday, Bloomberg News reported that Apple increased iPhone production in India, assembling over $7 billion in devices in the past fiscal year.
The article stated Apple currently makes approximately 7% of its iPhones in India, up from 1% in 2021.
Apple did not immediately comment on India manufacturing for Reuters.
Foxconn pledged to invest more outside China in March. According to Reuters, Pegatron Corp (4938. TW) is considering opening a second facility in India to diversify manufacturing away from China.
