Apple disputes French findings says iPhone 12 meets radiation rules. Apple said Wednesday that numerous international authorities validated its iPhone 12 model as compatible with global radiation standards after a French agency ordered it to halt selling it for violating European exposure restrictions.
The ANFR radiation authority ordered Apple to stop selling iPhone 12s in France on Tuesday after testing indicated the phone’s Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) was greater than permissible.
The ANFR said it will deploy agents to Apple shops and distributors to verify the model was discontinued.
It expected Apple “to deploy all available means to put an end to the non-compliance,” and if not, iPhone 12s shipped to customers would be recalled.
Apple presented ANFR with various Apple and independent third-party lab reports showing its compliance with all global SAR legislation and standards.
It claimed it was disputing AFNR’s evaluation and would work with the agency to prove compliance.
AFNR-accredited laboratories reported 5.74 watts per kilogram of electromagnetic radiation absorbed by the body during experiments imitating phone usage in the hand or trouser pocket. The European norm is 4.0 watts per kilogram of absorption. ANFR claimed the phone met body-SAR criteria in a jacket pocket or backpack.
