Amazon offers $10 for pickup to reduce shipping expenses. Amazon.com (AMZN.O) is joining other retailers to cut home delivery and return expenses despite sluggish consumer demand by offering $10 to pick up purchases instead of sending them.
Amazon has recently contacted an unknown number of Prime customers offering $10 to pick up an order of $25 or more at corporate pickup points in Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh, or Kohl’s shops.
Amazon did not comment.
The deal went to shipping expert Dean Maciuba from Upstate New York.
Amazon pickup sites provide “a huge opportunity for Amazon to reduce the cost of delivery,” Maciuba added.
He claimed it trains customers to submit returns directly to the corporation.
The Information claimed that Amazon now charges certain customers $1 if they return goods to a UPS.N store when there is an Amazon pickup/return facility closer to their delivery address.
UPS and FedEx (FDX.N) encourage consumers to utilize access points, especially in rural areas where delivery to far-flung destinations can be expensive.
For years, Amazon has trained customers to anticipate speedy, free shipping and returns. As a result, the firm has cut delivery costs across the board after rapid growth.
Last year, Amazon raised its yearly Prime subscription, which includes free shipping, by $20 to $139. It has also raised minimum order thresholds for free food delivery, pushed users to have all shipments delivered on a particular day of the week, and expanded faster same-day parcel delivery with a cost for purchases under $25.
