Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (9988. HK), a Chinese e-commerce behemoth, has informed Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan that it intends to invest in Turkey in the amount of $2 billion.

According to a statement issued by the company’s Turkish business, Alibaba President Michael Evans made the remarks during a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. It did not provide any details regarding the timing of the investment.

According to the statement, Evans also mentioned that Alibaba had spent $1.4 billion in Turkey via its subsidiary Trendyol, considered one of Turkey’s most well-known e-commerce platforms.

To participate in the 78th United Nations General Assembly session, Erdogan is now in the United States.
