Airbus lands $1.27 billion French air tanker upgrades and service deals

According to a report released on Monday, the French government’s fleet of A330 MRTTs (Multi Role Tanker Transports) will get capability upgrades and in-service support from Airbus (AIR.PA).

The world’s largest aircraft manufacturer said it had reached agreements with France’s Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) and Directorate of Aeronautical Maintenance (DMAe).

Airbus Defense and Space’s Head of Military Air Systems, Jean-Brice Dumont, said, “We are honored to support one of France’s most strategic capabilities.”

According to Airbus, the effort will turn the French A330 MRTT into a high bandwidth communication relay node, enabling it to remain connected in all situations, including congested areas and severe weather.

It said that the second contract would take care of the in-service maintenance of France’s “Phenix” fleet of 12 A330 MRTTs, consisting of the first 15 French A330 MRTTs with these additional capabilities.

According to Airbus, the A330 MRTT has 79 orders from 15 nations and a 90% market share outside the United States.

These agreements have effects that go beyond the aerospace and defense industries. They should have an impact on international relations, trade, and markets on a worldwide scale. These agreements have wide-ranging effects since Airbus is essential to the economy of many countries.
