CDK Global, which offers management software to over 15,000 car dealerships in North America, is down for the second day due to a cyberattack, according to Automotive News. The outage has prevented vehicle dealerships across North America from accessing internal systems used to track sales, examine customer information, schedule maintenance, and other functions.
On Wednesday, CDK informed dealerships that it is “investigating a cyber incident” and has “proactively shut all systems down” while fixing the problem. However, CDK quickly restored its systems, only to shut them down hours later owing to “an additional cyber incident.”
Many car dealerships have forced to revert to pen and paper while CDK’s software is down. Teddy Morse, CEO of the Ed Morse Automotive Group, tells Automotive News that dealers “can still take a piece of paper and walk it over to the technician and get the job done.”
CDK has yet to disclose any details about the cyber incident that resulted in the assault, or who is behind it. CDK representative Lisa Finney told The Verge that the company will “remain vigilant in our efforts to reinstate our services and get our dealers back to business as usual as quickly as possible.”
There is no news on when CDK’s service will be restored. In a note to dealers received by Automotive News, CDK said the outage will likely continue “several days.”
