Pilsbury Flour to Be Recalled for Fear of an E. Coli Outbreak

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) announced that ADM Milling Co. will be recalling Pilsbury, its brand of flour, because of an outbreak of E. coli.

The company will be recalling approximately 4,620 cases of Pillsbury Best 5-pound Bread Flour which were distributed in New York, Maryland, Connecticut, Maine, Delaware, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The article in question was sold by Hometown Food Co. and produced by ADM Milling, a subsidiary of worldwide food processor Archer Daniels Midland Co.

According to the FDA, there have not been any reported cases of illness relating to the flour, but customers are still advised to throw that flour away, or refund it.

The UPC codes for the suspected infected flour is 0 5150020031 5 and 0 5150020031 5, their use-by dates are June 8, 2020, and June 9, 2020.

The E. coli illness has been linked to the wheat that ADM Milling’s processing plant in Buffalo, New York uses to make their flour products.

In the past several weeks, several other brands have also been recalled for fears of an E. coli outbreak. 14,000 cases of King Arthur Flour, also produced by ADM Milling, have been recalled last week alone.

  1. coli symptoms are usually: stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. The sickness typically occurs 3-4 days after ingestion of E. coli-infected products, and the recovery time is approximately a week under normal conditions.
