Today, President Donald Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and discussed many things including the 2016 election interference case. Trump yet again has used the term “Witch Hunt” and Putin seems to agree. The meeting between the two presidents last about 2-hours behind closed doors in Helsinki, the capital of Finland.
People are outraged with the type of language Donald Trump used against the U.S. this morning on Twitter.
Donald Trump tweeted:
“Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigger Witch Hunt!”
Many U.S. senators criticized president Trump for his tweet.
Jeff Flake, United States Senator, and Trump critic tweeted:
“I never thought I would see the day when our American President would stand on the stage with the Russian President and place blame on the United States for Russian aggression. This is Shameful.”
Senator Chuck Schumer tweeted:
“For the president of the United States to side with President Putin against American law enforcement, American defense officials, and American intelligence agencies is thoughtless, dangerous and weak. The president is putting himself over our country.”
Unanimously, the United States Intelligence Community concluded that Russia involved themselves in the 2016 presidential election between Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton. They agreed that the interference was aimed to help aid Trump’s victory. Robert Mueller’s Russian investigation has led to the indictment of 12 Russian military officials.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein believes that Trump was not involved in the suspected collusion.
Rosenstein stated, “There is no allegation in this indictment that any American citizen committed a crime. There is no allegation that the conspiracy altered the vote count of changed any election result”.
Today, Trump had the opportunity to really nail Russia and hold them accountable for interfering with the 2016 election. Instead, he sides with Russia and calls the U.S. foolish.
