Pininfarina Designs $2 million EV Hypercar

Automobili Pininfarina, the car manufacturing company that produces Ferraris in Germany, announced that they will be building a $2 million electric hypercar. The blueprints of the new luxury vehicle present a thin, sleek, two-seater with a single beam of light on the front bumper. The Italian sports car is in the niche market of electric vehicles and captures the consumer’s eye. The lavish vehicle goes by the code-name PFO.

During an interview with The Verge, CEO of Automobili Pininfarina, Michael Perschke, stated that “as a super sports car brand, no one has embarked fully on an EV strategy”. Later in the interview, Perschke said that the PFO will be able to travel 300 miles on a fully charged battery, the battery will take 10 to 15 minutes to reach an 80% charge and the PFO will likely take 2 seconds to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour.

In the past, Perschke made it clear that Pininfarina is not a software company. “If you try to be a software company as a car company, per definition, you will always be second. You’re gaining a lot of accessibility and speed in open source systems. The apps are what clients are really interested in,” Perschke stated.

The design chief of the PFO project, Luca Borgogno, stated that “one of the main differences is a big central tunnel because most of the battery will be between driver and passenger”. The design chief has also stated that “We want to make a car that is not overdesigned. We want something that is super clean and impossibly simple.”

“The constraints are there, what is good is we live in the moment we can work a lot between human and machine. We want to make a big statement as well,” says Borgogno.

The Verge reported that the PFO will likely be presented at the 2019 Geneva Motor show in the Palexpo convention center. The PFO will go into production in 2020.
