TV Host Throws Shade at Ocasio-Cortez On Twitter

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist views, including free medicare for all, free college for students and federal guaranteed jobs, have stirred up the conservative community.  So much so, that John Cardillo, TV host of Newsmax’s ‘America Talks Live’, has falsely accused the congressional candidate’s backstory.

Earlier this week, Cardillo tweeted a picture of Ocasio-Cortez’s childhood home with the caption:

“This is the Yorktown Heights (very nice area) home @Ocasio2018 grew up in before going off to Ivy League Brown University. A far cry from the Bronx hood upbringing she’s selling.”

Ocasio-Cortez was quick to respond, listing the 4 major mistakes with Cardillo’s tweet:

“Hey John, 1. I didn’t go to Brown or the Ivy League. I went to BU. Try Google. 2. It is nice. Growing up, it was a good town for working people. My mom scrubbed toilets so I could live here & I grew up seeing how the zip code one is born in determines much of their opportunity. 3. Your attempt to strip me of my family, my story, my home, and my identity is exemplary of how scared you are of the power of all four of those things.”

When Ocasio-Cortez was asked about funding her campaign with small donations instead of corporate PAC money, she responded, “I wanted to be a 100 percent accountable representative to my community. I believe that the role of money in politics is really degrading our democracy and hurting our ability to have effective government”.

Since the stunning victory during the Democratic primaries in New York, Ocasio-Cortez has been brutalized on Twitter by conservatives. Many have been challenging her socialist views and have put her in the ‘hard left’ category. The online-bullying has not slowed down Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign.

After her win, Ocasio-Cortez’s Twitter following went up to 600,000 and the lipstick brand she wears during TV appearance sold off the shelves. Her victory has opened the floodgates for young, emerging progressives.
