Technology is finally approaching movie-level sophistication
With the creation of the Nike MAG from Back to the Future, robots that complete tasks, and now interactive holograms, the world is gradually becoming many films’ portrayal of “the future.”
The RED Hydrogen One will be releasing on Verizon and AT&T later this year, the company announced this week.
According to RED, the smartphone will have a 3D projected display that can be viewed and interacted with without special glasses. Plus, the 3D display can be captured using cameras on the phone.
If the device lives up to the hype surrounding it, it could be groundbreaking in hologram technology, and the world could soon look like Tony Stark’s office in Iron Man. However, without any videos or demonstrations of the smartphones, trusting the technology is challenging.
Many will recall that Amazon attempted a similar feat in 2014 with its Amazon Fire phone, which crashed to the ground faster than one can say “hologram.” But it’s been four years with technology having advanced every day, so the possibility is there.
However, even if the technology does succeed, consumers may be reluctant to purchase the Hydrogen One due to its steep anticipated price. Pre-orders ranged from roughly $1,300 for an aluminum model to $1,600 for a titanium model.
If consumers thought that the iPhone X was expensive at $999, they are in for a world of hurt if they want to keep up with the latest trends and technology.
Regardless of the success of the RED Hydrogen One, the development of this smartphone is a testament to how rapidly technology continues to evolve. The world is quickly becoming what film has shown to be “the future,” and it won’t be long before the world starts to look like that of The Jetsons.
