To fortify the electrical system against the increasing dangers posed by severe weather, the Biden administration said on Tuesday that it will be investing $2.2 billion to upgrade the system.
As a result of increasing demand from data centers that use a lot of electricity and other severe weather events, the federal government in the United States has been trying to revamp the country’s electric transmission system.
In addition to enabling additional data centers, increased manufacturing, and better transmission of renewable power, the grid enhancements will add approximately 13 GW of capacity, according to the Department of Energy.

Funding for eight initiatives in eighteen states has been announced.
“We must act with urgency to strengthen our aging grid,” stated U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm, adding that the first half of 2024 had already shattered records for the warmest days in Earth’s history. Granholm emphasized the need to address the ongoing extreme weather across the country.
