China says it has not banned the purchase or use of foreign phone brands. According to Reuters, China has tightened iPhone restrictions for state personnel, ordering certain major government institutions to ban the devices.
The alleged restriction coincides with mounting Beijing-Washington tensions and poses issues for Apple, which depends on China for sales and production.
China wanted all mobile phone firms to follow its policies and “strengthen information security management,” according to Mao.
As technology has become a national security problem for Beijing and Washington, China has prioritized domestic tech products.
