On Monday, Truecaller (TRUEb.ST) told Reuters that its caller identification service would soon be accessible on WhatsApp and other messaging applications to assist users in identifying scam calls.

Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedi stated the beta functionality would launch internationally in May. In 2021, Truecaller reported that Indian customers received 17 spam calls per month.
In February, India’s telecom regulator ordered Jio and Airtel to prevent telemarketing calls with AI filters. Truecaller is negotiating with telecom carriers to create such a solution.

“Over the last two weeks, we have seen a spike in user reports from India about spam calls over WhatsApp,” Mamedi said, adding that telemarketers using internet calling was new to the industry.
India prefers WhatsApp. Users may ban and report suspicious accounts using the company’s spam detection technologies.
Two hundred fifty million Indians use Truecaller. In addition, advertising, subscriptions, and verified company listings bring in 350 million people worldwide.
