On Friday, Twitter removed the “Government-funded Media” tag from NPR and CBC accounts, which suggests government involvement in editorial content.

The BBC’s Twitter account likewise lacked the “state-affiliated media” classification, along with NPR and CBC.

NPR and CBC halted their social media activity this month, claiming the tag did not adequately represent their governing structure.

Last week, Twitter’s billionaire owner Elon Musk told BBC the firm was attempting to be “accurate” and considering changing the classification.

We want to be honest and accurate. “We’re adjusting the label to ‘publicly funded’, which I think is perhaps not too objectionable,” Musk remarked.
